PIANO LESSONS

Piano lessons are offered to students Age 7 through Adult at the Beginner through Intermediate levels. Once a student is ready to move on to more advanced repertoire, I refer him/her to a piano specialist. I am a flute specialist and would never lead anyone to believe otherwise. My piano fundamentals were developed by the wonderful Mary Lou Wesley Krosnick (Professor Emeritus of Music--Jacksonville University). Since then I have kept up with my skills by accompanying various church services and choirs, school choirs, and private students.
I am committed to teaching my students proper technique and music theory skills from the beginning stages of piano study. Learning to play the piano is the best tool in learning how to play any other musical instrument.

The #1 FAQ..."Is an electronic keyboard okay?"
This is a question I get a lot when new students are registering for piano lessons. The answer is yes...temporarily. Please make sure you purchase a keyboard with at least 61 full-size keys (the same size you would find on an acoustic piano), not a toy version of the instrument. If you can purchase a keyboard with all 88 keys, that's even better. You will also need a stand or sturdy place in your home to set it up so that you are sitting with proper posture at the instrument. A sustain pedal to plug into your instrument will be needed once your music requires it. Be aware that the feel of the keys on a keyboard is much lighter than those on a digital or acoustic piano. Most "beginner model" keyboards are not equipped with weighted keys and the ability to vary the volume of sound with the touch of your hand is not an option. As you move beyond the beginner stages of piano study, you will need an instrument where you can control the dynamics (volume) of your music by the pressure you put on the keys with your fingers.
